EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process distressing experiences so they feel less emotionally overwhelming in the present.
Sometimes, difficult experiences continue to affect us long after they’ve ended. You might find yourself reacting strongly to certain situations, feeling stuck in familiar relationship patterns, struggling with anxiety, or experiencing self-doubt without fully understanding why. These reactions can be connected to past experiences that still feel emotionally charged.
EMDR helps you revisit distressing memories in a safe, supportive therapeutic setting while using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or gentle taps. This process supports the brain’s natural information-processing system, helping you work through memories and the thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations associated with them.
As you process these experiences, memories may become less distressing, and beliefs about yourself may begin to shift. For example, you might move from feeling “I’m not safe” or “Something is wrong with me” toward a greater sense of safety, self-trust, and self-worth.
-
EMDR is more than eye movements. Treatment begins with understanding your history, identifying your goals, and developing strategies to help you feel grounded and emotionally prepared. When you and I decide you’re ready, you’ll work with specific memories at a pace that feels manageable. You remain awake, aware, and in control throughout the process.
EMDR can help with trauma and distressing memories, but you don’t need to have experienced one major traumatic event to explore whether it might be helpful. It may also be useful when past experiences contribute to anxiety, relationship difficulties, negative self-beliefs, or patterns you’ve struggled to change.
The goal isn’t to erase what happened. It’s to help you relate to the past differently, so it has less power over how you feel, how you see yourself, and how you live today.

My therapeutic style is active and collaborative in the conversation. I build trusting relationships with clients that serve as the catalyst towards positive change. During sessions, I am supportively direct: acknowledging and validating clients, while guiding them to shed the thoughts and behaviors that are no longer serving them. My clients often describe me as nonjudgmental, warm and down-to-earth.
WHAT WILL THIS LOOK LIKE?
My personal brand of therapy will feel like having a conversation with someone who accepts you for who you are. (Don’t worry – we will still get right to work on the things you’re doing that cause you to feel stuck.)
In fact, throughout our conversations, I’ll look out for patterns, thoughts, feelings and behaviors that contribute to your feeling of stuckness. I will point them out to you, and, together, we will partner on learning more about these areas and ultimately shifting your perspectives and behaviors, tending to your past pain and learning new ways to cope with all that life throws at you. I will help you learn self compassion and radical self acceptance so that you can center your truest self and learn how to give yourself exactly what you need when you need it.
I firmly believe that we can control only one area of our lives: how we respond to the world around us. I am passionate about helping women understand exactly what that means for them and empowering you to make those changes as I cheer you on from the sidelines.
Sometimes the hardest part is getting started, so I commend you for taking the first step! Please believe: you are not too far gone, too broken or messed up to get the life and relationships you want and deserve. Let’s do this.
